I am coordinating a research project at the University of Minnesota focusing on trans people who have sex with non-trans men and HIV prevention and we are currently recruiting participants for the pilot of the survey for non-trans men who have sex with trans people. Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Last year, a publisher asked me to write a book called “The FTM Guide
to SEX.” Based on the questions that continually come up around FTM
transitions and how sexuality is affected, not to mention how
relationships are affected, I thought this was a pretty good idea.
The fact is, there is practically nothing out there about transmen and
sex/sexuality that’s written for a wide audience (and that
psychologists and other counseling professionals, and physicians
could use and rely on to help them understand our relationships and
community), so I started talking last year with a few people about
contributing some of their sexuality stories, and also working up some
questions for a survey.

Last fall, I had the opportunity to go to Serbia and meet Dr. Miroslav
Djordjevic. He showed me a paper he had just had accepted in the
“Journal of Sexual Medicine” describing his surgical technique for
metoidioplasty, which he has been doing for several years. In that
article, he wrote, “I have no knowledge of my patients’ sexual
satisfaction.” I said, “Miro, this is a problem!” I told him about
the research I was developing, and he suggested we team up to study
this, write journal articles about it, and present at conferences. We
agreed to do that.

So, I am undertaking some research about FTM/transmen and their
partners’ sexual health and sexual practices, and I am asking you to
share this request with the transmen and their partners that you know.
I have two questionnaires out on SurveyMonkey right now, and they
will be open until the end of June, 2009. One is for transmen, and
the other is for partners of transmen. Any partners of transmen who
happen to be transmen themselves can answer both questionnaires – they must just remember from which perspective they are responding. The two surveys are different, though there are some parallel questions.
The transmen survey has 97 questions, and takes roughly 40-50 minutes
to complete. The partner survey has 78 questions, and takes roughly
35 to 40 minutes to complete; but these times will vary depending each
person.

All participants must be 18 years old, or older. You do not have to
be in the United States, and you do not have to be in a relationship
to participate.

Responses are completely anonymous, and there is no way anyone’s
responses can be connected with their email address, their computer,
or their partner’s responses. At the end of either survey,
respondents will be given an email address to which they may write if
they would like to volunteer for a follow-up interview to further
discuss their experiences. If you do volunteer, your participation
will no longer be anonymous (because the researchers will know how to
contact you at that point), but your survey responses will remain
anonymous, and the identifying information in your follow-up interview
will be kept confidential as required by ethical research practices
and federal, state, and local laws. Your privacy will be protected.

Please help spread the word among transmen and partners about this
research, and please participate, and encourage your qualified
partner(s) and friends to participate. The more respondents we can
get, the better! But please don’t broadcast these links on public web
sites, because if they generate spam for SurveyMonkey, the survey
could be taken down, and that would be terrible for me! Here are the

I'm a 45 y/o intersexed guy. I'm queer. I can't really define my sexuality else wise, as the definitions are based on a presumption of a gender binary, of which I am not a part. I am kinky. I am mostly a top, but do LOVE to get a good deep fucking or have the right person sit on my face. I am 6'1", medium build, some gynomastia (the coolest thing my body ever did!), short hair, thinning on top, goatee, glasses. educating teachers about trans and gender variant students

hi everyone, I am a grad student at Western Carolina University. I am pursuing teachers licensure and a Masters of Arts in Teaching. I am currently working on a project to educate current and future teachers about trans issues and gender variant youth. The goal is to educate teachers in order to foster an understanding of these students so that teachers can be more supportive and well informed, therefore better able to understand the unique experiences of trans and gender variant youth. Part of the project will be to include short, personal narratives from trans or gender variant individuals. These can be anywhere from a few sentences to a few pages. I would like to get stories of people's experiences in school, particularly in terms of the experience of being trans or gender variant (there are lots of words that would be approriate here, I'll stick with these two for brevity purposes) Ideally, these personal stories will help teachers understand the unique challenges youth face as well as how they can be more supportive and inclusive. Our text books and classes do not cover this material, so your input is valuable. If you prefer to remain anonymous, that is fine. Some helpful information might be age and state you attended school in, but even that is optional. Please send any ideas or stories to:

okay, i'm going to walk into the fire here. i am going to set myself up for some potential ire. but i gotta bring it up because it's a phenomenon i'm noticing and not quite sure how to ..... come to terms with re: my own specific interests.

caveats:

this is SO a generalization;
this is SO my own p.o.v./experience;
i am NOT trying to bait/provoke/diminish etc.

i perceive a pendulum swing to an extra valuation of masculinity right now within the ftm community. most ftm guys i know/know of (but one) are identifying as tranny fags and/or only seeking out connections with other fag-id'd people (again, that this one person happens to know of at this current general point in time).

as a self-id'd omnisexualqueerfemmishwoman, i have found myself to be ... *mostly* suited to/suitedby ftm guys. (GENERALIZATIONS GALORE, STEP RIGHT UP!) but i'm finding myself ruled-out as potential meeting/mating material by said category of personage because, in spite of about a 38% masculinity quotient in terms of my own personage, i am not a fag or fag id'd.

i have no judgments about this, but i am frustrated by it because of course it brings up lots of issues around deprivation and lack of opportunity/odds, and yep, some bit of stuff about not being desired/desirable, by those i would *like* to be so, as a female id'd woman.

ummmmm .....
and my point in posting this is ..... ?
just to put it out there as self-expression? food for thought? because i think i'm not alone in this perspective but it's taboo because it might be taken in so many wrong ways and seen as sociosexuallypolitically incorrect right now?
